Les Rallizes Dénudés

Les Rallizes Dénudés are one of the earliest and most revolutionary Japanese psychedelic rock bands, and existed off and on through four decades. The band formed in November of 1967 at Kyoto University, inspired by Exploding Plastic Inevitable-era Velvet Underground as well as the over-amplified rock of Blue Cheer and Mario Schifano's avant-garde ensemble Le Stelle.
Listening to Les Rallizes Dénudés cancels out time. It defies it, in the sense that every listen to it is of arbitrary length. If you put it on repeat you can just soak in it all day long, bass lines that drag on forever and ever. You turn it off, then, your clock resynchronizes to the right time but as long as it's on it creates a world of itself.

Broadcast

Formed in Birmingham, England in 1995 by James Cargill and Trish Keenan, Broadcast were a band that fused the worlds of pop songcraft and experimentally-minded electronic music into a contemporary blend of psychedelia that resonated deeply with listeners, effectively expanding the conventions of what could be considered psychedelic.

The Laurels

The Laurels are a neo-psychedelic four-piece based in Sydney's Inner West. They formed in 2006 after the members met through mutual friends at a silly hat party. They developed a live sound that differs notably to the sound that appears on their recordings. The band uses shoegazing guitar techniques and understated vocals to emulate the loud and heavily distorted sound of 90's artists.

Yuri Morozov

An other Soviet gem from 70s. Amazing instrumental electronic prog-rock from the “Russian beatnick” Yuri Morozov. The multi-instrumentalist, sound engineer and composer built his own home record studio where he produced around 60 of his own albums or as he stated “14,7 kilograms of tape”. Shadoks released his first album Cherry Garden of Jimi Hendrix in 2015. Back in 1973, it was only available in Russia if you had a friend who had a friend who had tape of his great but officially banned music. His creative output ranged from psychedelic folk and rock to experimental and abstract electronic compositions. Here’s a really interesting one-and-a-half hour Documentary  about him. He sadly died in 2006.

Vox Low

French act Vox Low remain virtually unknown, however, even by the meager standards of niche psychedelia, a state of affairs that releasing 100 vinyl copies of their latest, two-track single probably won’t do a great deal to address. The band have the potential to be huge but, like pandas flown halfway around the world who then refuse to fuck their way off the endangered list, they need to meet us halfway.

The Black Ryder

The Black Ryder are an alternative band that originates from Sydney, Australia. This is music to soothe your soul with songs of loneliness, compassion, despair, transcendence and ascension. They are unfucking the world!
